My only stop on Restaurant Day today, on the 21st of February 2016, was the Drop X Doughnuts pop-up. Talor had prepared 200 doughnuts and filled them with vanilla, lemon curd, Daim (salted caramel and chocolate) and Valrhona chocolate. You could also choose from the glazed selection, including strawberry sparkle, raspberry sprinkle, maple bacon (!) and pineapple. Ever since I visited Talor’s Valentine doughnut pop-up at Java last week, I knew I would prioritize her shop on Restaurant Day as well.

Talor had done some nice marketing work for her event, which resulted in a really long queue that stretched from her apartment, down the stairs, and across the yard. The pop-up restaurant opened at 11 AM. When I arrived around 12 PM the queue was one hour long. I’m guessing it must have been closer to two hours when I left. I am sure Talor learned something about logistics this day, and I imagine her next pop-up will run a lot faster and smoother, not to mention the actual restaurant she hopes to open one day.

Last year, I had planned my Restaurant Day much better, and managed to drop by four places. The failure this year was partly caused by a very late evening at Territoriet, Pjoltergeist and Bar Lardo last night, which resulted in oversleeping. I guess I had underestimated the popularity of Talor’s donut shop as well. Thus, I missed the awesome-sounding chicken and pancakes restaurant Unlikely Pairing, the poutine at Oh’Boy and the ramen at Udon. Oh well, I’ll be better prepared for the next Restaurant Day, which will most likely be on May 15th.

Where did you go on Restaurant Day this year?
