Hi
How was your summer? We were busy traveling in New York and Washington, D.C. in August, exploring the best restaurants on the East Coast. September took us back to beautiful Helsinki, where we tested lots of new Finnish eateries. We'll be updating the guides on our blog soon, but you can already read full reviews on The Hungries forum from all the restaurants we visited!
Speaking of the blog, we finally have Japan guides up on our website! The first two destinations? Kyoto and Osaka! So whether you're heading to Noma Kyoto, or just dreaming of a Japan trip one day, we've got you covered. Keep scrolling to see the two new guides.
RUMORS & FOOD NEWS – OCTOBER 2024 Copenhagen is getting more and more diverse with every new restaurant opening. We were blown away by the new Bar Vitrine, which offers Indian-inspired food and natural wines on Møntergade. We also were thrilled to discover Comé Rice Kitchen, a Japanese conbini-inspired shop in Kødbyen, serving onigiri, sashimi, and karaage, at insanely affordable prices. Texture, an ambitious new fine dining restaurant from French/Italian chef Karim Khouani, also opened recently in town. Beloved Darcy's Kaffe has opened a second shop on Sønder Boulevard. And pastry queen Chiara Barla of Apotek 57 has quickly expanded her empire with new hotspots Lido and Riviera. Soon to come? Slurp Ramen is opening a second shop on Borgergade at the end of October. Nickie Mydung of Lua will be opening Chiba, an Indo-Chinese dim sum restaurant, on October 10 in Vesterbro. Chef Yves Le Lay of À Terre also announced a new restaurant opening: Park Lane, a restaurant and wine bar in Hellerup.
And so much is happening in Oslo these days! One exciting newcomer is Roze Gastro – chef Leopold Roze's pop-up days (Banal) are behind him and he now has his own place in Bislett. Cave Mia, a French-inspired bistro from the team behind Oh Dear, has opened in the former Svenssons Fat location. Osloslo, another neighborhood bistro, has opened in Youngstorget. Svanen has finally opened Den Grimme Ælling (The Ugly Duckling), a basement bar using leftovers and ugly ingredients from their upstairs bar. Capybara, a rum-focused bar, has opened in the old venue of Frank's. And popular Copenhagen porridge bar, Grød, has opened its first Oslo location in Grünerløkka. Soon to come? Babbo Collective is opening a new pasta-focused restaurant, Pasta Baby, in October. Another projected fall opening is Sagene Vinbar, a wine bar and art gallery.
In Malmö, our Hungry member Marta Kubacka has opened her own bakery, Bullarbyn Bageri, featuring organic, sourdough bread, cinnamon buns, and drożdżówki (Polish pastries). Want to try your hand at baking? Join The Hungries for a baking class with Marta later this month!
