What a time to be alive. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has taken over the world and completely altered our daily life. The first lockdown came in the spring of 2020, but we got to enjoy a partial re-opening of society throughout the summer and early autumn months. In November, Oslo was hit with an alcohol ban that caused many restaurants to shut down again (but we tracked the places that stayed open for dine-in as well as take-away). Lockdown 3.0 was announced in mid-January as a reaction to new mutations of the virus. (New year, new variants.) All of us have been ordered to stay at home to stay safe – but we can still support local businesses. Even though you can’t go out to eat right now, a lot of restaurants are still open and offering takeout and home delivery options. We hope this Oslo take-away guide makes this time in lockdown a little tastier for you!
Support Your Favorite Local Restaurants!
Restaurants are struggling to survive right now – especially the independent ones. They have employees and rent to pay, and hardly any income. If we don’t support them today, we might not have them around tomorrow. That’s why takeout is the new eating out! You can support your favorite local restaurants, and also eat better food at home. If you want another way to support restaurants during this time of crisis, consider purchasing gift cards for future use. The restaurants will get the money now, and you can treat yourself to a nice meal when life is normal again. If you have a reservation now, maybe postpone it instead of canceling. This is crucial if you want your future neighborhood to have a diverse selection of eateries and not just chain cafés and run-off-the-mill fast-food restaurants. Stay safe out there everyone – and please remember to wash your hands, and practice social distancing.
