If you haven’t tried the #19 sandwich from Langer’s Deli, have you even been to L.A.? The #19 is the order at Langer’s – their world-famous pastrami comes served on double-baked rye bread, with Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and coleslaw. The meat here is cut very thick, almost like corned beef, and has an incredibly smoky, roasted barbecue flavor. Langer’s has been a L.A. institution since 1947. Why? Because they serve the best pastrami in the world.

I’ve been gonig to Langers since 1971l. It is consistently good. Yes # 19 is as good as it gets. I often say I’ll have something else, but always end up ordering # 19–iresistable. I also love the chocolate milk shakes and the mushroom barley soup–one Wednesdays, I think it should be on the menu every day.
If it weren’t so far away, I’d b e at Langer’s every day or two, especially with this virus stuff…waht better way to fight the elements–eating well is the best revenge.

It’s the best sandwich ever! We’ll need to try the chocolate milkshake and mushroom barley soup next time. 🙂 Stay safe!
Ironically, I recently got a major craving for Langer’s during this COVID-19 pandemic. I had taxes to do in Duarte, so made a huge circle from my home in the east San Fernando Valley, to Duarte, Langer’s, then back home, on April 1. Also, picked up a sandwich for a neighbor who did a nice deed for me recently. Although I did not order the #19, as I prefer my Langer’s pastrami on rye, with coleslaw and no cheese, it is similar, and hands down, it is the best pastrami I have ever had in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I believe that my order and my neighbor’s were not correct. I believe I was given corned beef on sourdough instead. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to the pastrami, and especially the rye bread, but hard to fault the restaurant during these challenging times. Will try again in a month or so. In years past, I had taken my Italian/American NY Bronx born grandmother to have a sit down there, and she said Langer’s reminded her of NY!
At least there wasn’t much traffic, right? 🙂 Stay safe out there!
The entire trip took under an incredible 2.5 hrs! Will do that, and you too stay as safe as humanly possible!
