Our Romantic Retreat at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar
We celebrated our one-year anniversary with a romantic retreat at the Fairmont. Although we are fortunate to be able to travel often, we rarely have time to relax on our busy trips. It was so nice to be able to unwind on a long weekend here and have a real vacation! The Fairmont Grand Del Mar absolutely spoiled us – the staff congratulated us on our anniversary upon our arrival, and they had anniversary bubbles waiting for us in our room. We were pampered with a couples massage, enjoyed breakfast in bed, basked in the sun by the pool, and indulged in a meal at San Diego’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, Addison, which is located on the property. Last year, we met at Maaemo in Norway on October 19th, so it was only fitting to spend this October 19th enjoying another Michelin meal together, this time in California. We like being a party of two.
Our Signature Poolside Room
Our favorite part about our room was the private terrace that allowed us to walk right out to the adults-only relaxation pool. Inside our room, we had a spacious and ultra-comfortable bed, and a cute shuttered window that allowed us to peek into our marble bathroom, which had both a deep soaking bathtub and a walk-in shower. Anders especially loved the minibar station in the room, which, in addition to a mini-fridge, had a sink you could use as a wine cooler, and wooden cabinets stocked with glassware and treats. Kaitlin loved the super-soft bathrobes and slippers and the fact that she could have brought her family’s dog here if she wanted to – there was even a dog bed available in the room!
