Welcome back! As residents slowly trickle back into town after their vacations, the city wakes up from its holiday siesta and jumps into motion. Restaurants are reopening, and food festivals are kicking off. August is arguably Denmark’s finest time of year, the month with the best chance for good weather. So get ready to eat and drink in the sun, and soak up those last longs days of the glorious Scandinavian summer. Crayfish Party – August 3rd

The Housewife Roast – August 9th

The next dinner hosted by The Caribbean Housewife will take place on Wednesday, August 9th, and will serve dishes inspired by the Dutch-Indonesian rice table alongside natural wine pairings. Click here to book a table.

Ark x Little Red Door – August 10th

On Thursday, August 10th, plant-based restaurant Ark will host award-winning Parisian cocktail bar Little Red Door for a one-night-only event. Little Red Door will pair “farm to glass” cocktails with Ark’s summer menu. Click here to book a table.

Masseria – mid August

In mid August, the Brace team will open Masseria, a casual pasta bar and restaurant, in Kødbyen. Here, chef Nicola Fanetti will serve an à la carte menu of rustic, traditional Italian dishes. Although it will be a more relaxed environment than at Brace, they will use equally high-quality ingredients and emphasize sustainability. Click here to book a table.

Street Food Around The Lakes (Street Food om Søerne) – August 17th-20th

Food trucks and food stalls will once again be set up around the lakes in Copenhagen for three days, from August 17th until August 20th. There will be over 40 food concepts present at the festival, as well as beers from Mikkeller, ice cream, coffee, and music. See the full food list here.

The Housewife Roast – August 24th

On Thursday, August 24th, the Caribbean Housewife will host an encore of her winemaker dinner with German winemaker Alanna LaGamba. The menu celebrates strawberries, to match the juicy natural wines (strawberry gazpacho, strawberry carpaccio, strawberry quiche, strawberry gelato). Stars du Nord – MATERIA Wilderness Dining – August 25th-27th

From August 25th-27th, a secret green oasis in Christiania will be transformed into the world’s most progressive forest restaurant – MATERIA as Scandinavia’s most innovative Michelin chefs join forces to cook in the wild. Participating chefs include Francis Cardenau (President Bocuse d’Or Denmark), Sayan Isaksson (Nour), Sebastian Gibrand (medalist Bocuse d’Or Sweden), Alan Bates (Connection), Jae Wilkinson, and Eero Vottonen (Palace). Gasoline Grill American State Fair – August 26th

‘MURICA, F*CK YEAH! Our favorite burger joint, Gasoline Grill, is hosting an American-style State Fair at their location in Carlsberg Byen on Saturday, August 26th. They’re gathering some of their favorite Americans for a big outdoor party, so you just might see the likes of Geoffrey Canilao from Balderdash, American Pie Company, BEC, and Holy Smoke BBQ throwing down some epic food and drinks. There will also be live jazz music. The festivities begin at 11:00 a.m.

Simply Grapes Pop-Up – August 28th

On Monday, August 28th, enjoy a last summer getaway via Simply Grapes wine! Taste wines from Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy will be served alongside a menu curated by Simon Basballe and Emilie Qvist. See below for booking information.

Grønt Marked – August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th

Copenhagen’s favorite farmers’ market is open all summer long, selling organic vegetables, ciders, kombuchas, kimchi, ferments, and more. Swing by the market next to Lille Bakery on the first Sunday of every month, the Vesterbro market at Litauens Plads on the second Sunday, the Nørrebro market at Skjolds Plads on the third Sunday, and the Frederiksberg market at Aksel Møllers Have on the fourth Sunday.

Formel B x Lillero – all of August

Owners of Michelin-starred restaurant Formel B, Kristian Arpe-Møller and Rune Amgild Jochumsen, have once again moved their restaurant to the Danish beach for a summer holiday. Lille B (Lillero + Formel B) is a summer pop-up at the Lillero glamping site in Odsherred, Denmark. Food is served informally, family-style with nine servings to share. Natural, organic wines and classical wines are both available, as well as simple cocktails from the beach bar. Bageriet Benji is also serving pastries. The pop-up runs through the end of August.

Join The Hungries for a pre-opening party at Masseria on Tuesday, August 8th. Be the first on the scene at the new Italian restaurant from the Brace team, located in Kødbyen. Here, chef Nicola Fanetti will serve an à la carte menu of rustic, traditional Italian dishes. Sunday Church – August 20th

On Sunday, August 20th, you’re invited to Sunday Church with The Hungries! Along with the gang from Balderdash (our favorite cocktail bar in Copenhagen), we will be taking a party bus filled with booze to Holy Smoke BBQ in Sweden for the ultimate Sunday Funday. That’s right, it’s a return of one of last year’s most popular events!! Holy Smoke BBQ serves the tastiest barbecue we’ve tried outside of the great U.S. of A. – and you’ll get to be part of a family-style FEAST! We’re talking pulled pork, we’re talking chicken, we’re talking brisket, we’re talking beef ribs, cornbreads, sides, and all the fixings! Bring on the meat sweats!
