It is summer in Copenhagen, which means that many of the Danes have abandoned the city and retreated to their summer houses, and the rest of us locals have fled south to warmer destinations. Because of this, lots of restaurants close for a few weeks in July during the summer holidays. But if you’re visiting Copenhagen this month, you won’t go hungry – there’s still quite a lot happening in the city that never stops eating. Plus, it’s the best time of year weather-wise to be in Scandinavia! Keep reading to see a list of the exciting new openings, events, pop-ups, and collabs happening this month in Copenhagen.

Kin Dee x Hija de Sanchez – July 3rd

The next “Amigos de Sanchez” event at Hija de Sanchez Taqueria in Kødbyen will take place on Sunday, July 3rd. Chef Dalad Kambhu from the Michelin-starred restaurant Kin Dee in Berlin will be the guest chef for the day and serve some extra special Thai tacos! Open from 12:00 until sold out.

Auren’s Deli – July 3rd

Opening on Godthåbsvej in Frederiksberg is Auren’s Deli, a shop and bar from Henry Stevens and Pernille Rosenbæk offering fresh produce from their farm and more. Auren’s Deli is set to open on July 6th, with a soft opening party on July 3rd.

Grønt Marked – July 3rd and July 17th

On the first Sunday of every month (from May until December), you’ll find the city’s biggest farmer’s market, Grønt Marked, pop up on Refshaleøen. Shop organic vegetables, ciders, kombuchas, kimchi, ferments, and so much more. Now, the market also has expanded to Nørrebro – find your favorite farmers at Guldberg Byplads next to Rondo on the third Sunday of every month as well.

Nordic Michelin Guide Release – July 4th

Although the event is not happening in Copenhagen but in Norway, the annual release of the Nordic Michelin Guide is one of the biggest days of the year in the food industry. New Michelin stars and special awards will be handed out to the top restaurants in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and the Faroe Islands. Of course, we are most eager to see who will get stars in Copenhagen! Will Alchemist get three stars this year? Abortion Rights Bake Sale – July 4th

Industry friends in Copenhagen are gathering together for a bake sale on the fourth of July, to raise money for reproductive rights. Swing by Villette in the afternoon to buy baked goods from some of Copenhagen’s best bakeries (and wine!) for a good cause. All proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood and Brigid Alliance. Caribbean Housewife Roast – July 13th

The Caribbean Housewife Roast returns on July 13th at the Kitchen Collective on Slagtehusgade 11A. The theme of the July edition is Afro Vibes, with a menu inspired by West Africa and the Caribbean served alongside Afro beats. There will be a four course vegetarian menu with a natural wine pairing from female winemakers. Click here to book a table.

Diamond Slice x Depanneur – Every Friday & Saturday in July

While the New York-style pizza joint Diamond Slice is under construction, they will be popping up at Depanneur every Friday and Saturday for the month of July. Come get a taste of the Big Apple on Rantzausgade in Nørrebro, from 17:00 CEST.

Donda Deli – mid July

Opening in Vesterbro is Donda Deli, an eatery and deli shop from Donda. The restaurant is a slightly more casual little sister to their popular Christianshavn restaurant, open for lunch and dinner serving small plates and dishes from Donda’s take-away menu such as a filet o’fish sandwich and chicken wings. The deli shop will sell a variety of Mexican goods and ingredients to take home, including Donda’s signature flour tortillas, dried chiles, salsas, meat, cheese and fish – and, of course, lots of bottles of natural wine.

Amigos de Sanchez – July 24th

The next “Amigos de Sanchez” event at Hija de Sanchez Taqueria in Torvehallerne will take place on Sunday, July 24th. The guest chef will be Rosio Sanchez’s dad, in town from Chicago to showcase some of his favorite home-cooked dishes. There will be enchiladas, tostadas, spiked horchata, and a dessert with fresh Danish strawberries. Open from 12:00 until sold out.

JUJU – July 25th

Opening on July 25th on Øster Farimagsgade 8 in Copenhagen is JUJU, a modern Korean eatery and casual little sister restaurant to Koan, from chef Kristian Baumann (chef/owner of Koan, and formerly 108). JUJU is only open Monday through Friday, and serves both lunch and dinner. On the à la carte menu is Korean barbecued skewers, kimchi, mandoo, noodles, banchan, fried chicken wings, sesame rice, and ice cream. All dishes are meant to be shared family-style. To drink, there is beer, wine, and cocktails. Head chef: Youngjin (Jin) Kim. Restaurant manager: Rasmus Chrone.

Hey Planet x Brus Pop-Up – July 26th

The sustainable food company Hey Planet is hosting a pop-up at Brus, featuring their meat alternative made from buffalo beetles, peas, and insect protein. The nutritious, meat-free dishes will be served alongside beers from To Øl. Follow their Instagram for more information.

El Bar Pop-Up at Tivoli – July 2nd-28th

Chef Paco Morales and the team from El Bar in Córdoba, Spain are taking over the Japanese Tower in Tivoli for the month of July. In addition to owning El Bar, Paco Morales is also the head chef at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Noor. At Tivoli, they will serve a nine-course tasting menu fusing Andalusian and Danish ingredients. The lunch menu is 1000 DKK per person and the dinner menu is 1200 DKK per person. Summer Restaurant in Kulturtårnet – June 1st-August 27th

The summer restaurant in Kulturtårnet (the Culture Tower) returns to Knippelsbro this June until August, serving natual wines from Rosforth & Rosforth and a four-course dinner highlighting local vegetables and fish. The Hungries x The Caribbean Housewife – August 10th

On Wednesday, August 10th, The Hungries will be taking over the chef’s table at The Caribbean Housewife’s next winemaker dinner. Journalist, feminist activist, and winemaker Keto Ninidze from the Oda Family Winery in Martvili, Georgia will be present at the dinner to showcase some of her wines alongside a specially curated menu.
