As summer draws to a close, we are holding onto the last of these long golden days and squeezing every last drop of sunshine out of them. September always marks a seasonal transition, as kids head back to school and workers return to the office after long holidays. But fear not, there’s still time to have fun in the sun before summer officially turns to autumn! As usual, we’ve got you covered with all the food intel you’re looking for. Kōnā Fried Chicken Counter

Extra, extra! The downstairs counter at Kōnā will furthermore be known as the KFCC, the Kōnā Fried Chicken Counter. Order buckets of fried chicken (and fried mushrooms) alongside sides like kimchi, potato salad, pickles, and homemade dips. Josephine Opening Party – September 1st

Opening on Thursday, September 1st on Frankrigsgade in Amager is Josephine, a natural wine bar and shop. From 16:00 they will offer a drink and a snack for the first couple hours of opening.

Værnedamsvej Fall Market – September 3rd

On three days a year, Værnedamsvej closes for traffic and becomes an outdoor market. The autumn market will take place on September 3rd, on Værnedamsvej and Tullinsgade in Vesterbro from 9:00 until 17:00. Independent vendors and shops will have booths set up on the street.

Juli Pizzeria x Rødder og Vin – September 3rd

On Saturday, September 3rd, Rødder og Vin will be hosting a pizza party with the soon-to-open Juli Pizzeria. Solfinn will be pouring wine and there will be plenty of pizza from 13:00 until sold out.

Mother Pizza Birthday Party – September 3rd

Mother Pizza in Kødbyen is celebrating their 10th birthday on September 3rd, where they will be giving away pizza and wine. There will also be live music from 18:00.

Diamond Slice – September 3rd

Slice, slice baby! New York-style pizza joint Diamond Slice is open in Blågårds Plads! Jan Kopacz (former head chef of Bæst), Kristopher Schram (formerly of Bæst and the West Taghkanic Diner in New York), and Alex Dadzis (former head chef of Friheden) started by opening their take-away slice window and outdoor seating in early September, and plan to open the dining room and bar in early October.

Balthazar Chef’s Social Hours – September 8th

Chef Yves Le Lay (À Terre) and Jakob De Neergaard (Marchal) are teaming up to host a social hour party at Balthazar. Drop by between 18:00 and 20:00 for some canapés and Champagne. The food is free, the drinks are not. Click the post below for reservation information.

Fiskerikajen Crayfish Party – September 8th

On Thursday, September 8th, there will be a krebsegilde (crayfish feast) at Villa Kultur in Østerbro. Fiskerikajen will provide Swedish crabs and wine as well as a ceviche and dessert.

Angelika Pop-Up at Mangholm – September 12th and 13th

The world’s best restaurant, Geranium, announced on their Instagram channel that their plant-based sister restaurant, Angelika, would return for a two-day pop-up this September at Mangholm, an organic farm outside of Copenhagen in Hillerød. The menu is 1800 DKK per person and includes a drink pairing with wine and juice. Proceeds will be donated to the Danish Nature Fund. Angelika served us the best vegan menu we’ve ever tried, so see the Instagram post below for details about booking.

Caribbean Housewife Roast – September 14th

The Caribbean Housewife Roast returns on September 14th at the Kitchen Collective on Slagtehusgade 11A. There will be a five-course vegan menu alongside Danish wines from Vejrhøj Vingård. Click here to book a table.

Psyche Café – September 15th

A new coffee shop and all-day eatery from head chef Mati Pichci, Psyche Café, opens on September 15th in the former Relæ space. Here you will find omelettes, coffee from April, omelettes, salads, and other holistic breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes made with organic ingredients. On Friday and Saturday nights there will be live music.

Coffee Collective Carlsberg Byen – September 16th

Our favorite Copenhagen-based coffee chain is expanding with another shop, in Carlsberg Byen! Coffee Collective Carlsberg Byen is slated to open on September 16th and will offer free coffee the whole day. The new shop is located in the ground flour of Pasteurs Tårn (Pasteur’s Tower) in Carlsberg Byen.

Mexican Pop-Up at Enghave Kaffe – September 16th

On Friday, September 16th, Javier, Marie, and Victor will be hosting a Mexican pop-up at Enghave Kaffe to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day. The featured dish will be a carne en su sugo, a traditional dish from Jalisco that is like a meat and bacon stew with tomatillos and chilis. (There is also a vegan option made with soy.) Bredo Pop-Up at Bar Pasta – September 18th

Queer Solidarity Fundraiser at La Banchina – September 18th

On Sunday, September 18th, La Banchina will be the host venue of a fundraiser in support of queer solidarity. All proceeds will be donated to Lesvos LGBTIQ+ Refugee Solidarity and alQaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society. The event begins at noon and there will be lots of food and drink available to purchase for a good cause.

Ciao Kimchi – September 19th

The guys from I Milanesi (an Italian restaurant soon-to-open in Copenhagen) will team up with kimchi queen Kala (Kala’s Kimchi) for a one-day-only pop-up at Kōnā of Korean/Italian fun. You can expect to see kimchi arancini, gochugaru and parmesan, and other fun fusion dishes of the two cultures served in a five-course menu. Click here to book a table.

Licorería Limantour x Balderdash – September 20th

One of The World’s 50 Best Bars, Licorería Limantour, is coming from Mexico City for a one-night-only bar takeover at our favorite Copenhagen cocktail bar, Balderdash. Swing by for some tacos, tequila, mezcal, and specialty cocktails.

Slurp Ramen x Haikara – September 24-25th

The team from Haikara in Paris are taking over the Slurp kitchen at the end of September for a two-day pop-up. You can expect punchy, Japanese-style dishes from chefs Sho Miyashita and Andrea Piras.

Elena Reygadas x Hija de Sanchez – September 25th

The next “Amigos de Sanchez” event at Hija de Sanchez Taqueria in Torvehallerne will take place on Sunday, September 25th. Chef Elena Reygadas from restaurant Rosetta in Mexico City will be the guest chef for the day and serve some extra special tacos! Open from 12:00 until sold out.

Sunday Roast at Brasserie Prins – September 25th

On the last Sunday of every month, Brasserie Prins will serve a classic Sunday roast. The festivities will kick off at noon and go until midnight, featuring a different meat every month alongside crispy roasted potatoes, cabbage, glazed carrots, and more. Click here to book a table.

Grønt Marked – September 4th, 11th, and 18th

The city’s biggest farmer’s market, Grønt Marked, first started on Refshaleøen, where it still serves organic vegetables, ciders, kombuchas, kimchi, and ferments on the first Sunday of every month. The market has also expanded to Vesterbro and Nørrebro – find your favorite farmers at Litauens Plads on the second Sunday of every month and at Guldberg Byplads next to Rondo on the third Sunday of every month. No matter where you live, you’re never very far from a market!

SVOVL Vinbar Pop-Up – Every Thursday in September

Hija de Sanchez at Broens Gadekøkken – Every Saturday in September

Every Saturday in September, you can find some of Copenhagen’s best tacos at the street food market Broens Gadekøkken. The Hija de Sanchez Taqueria food truck will be serving tacos and paletas each weekend.

Dill Pop-Up at Tivoli – August 2nd-September 10th

Chef Gunnar Karl Gíslason and his team from the Michelin-starred restaurant Dill in Iceland are moving their restaurant to Copenhagen for a two month pop-up at Tivoli. Come get a taste of Icelandic specialities for a limited time in Denmark. (Dung-smoked trout, anyone?) The tasting menu is 1200 DKK per person. Click here to book a table.

Madland Food Festival – August 18th-October 9th

The sustainability-focused food festival, Madland, kicked off on August 18th and lasts until October 9th. According to their website, their mission is to “connect and equip professional food people as well as food citizens to take an active position on our responsibility and influence in sustainable change.” Click here to see the full program of events, which include farm visits, coffee courses, sustainable dinners, and more.

The Caribbean Housewife x Kulturtårnet – September 16th-December 16th

The Caribbean Housewife is taking over the iconic Kulturtårnet (The Culture Tower) at Knippelsbro every Friday evening this autumn. Sunday Church – September 11th

On Sunday, September 11th, you’re invited to Sunday Church with The Hungries! Along with the gang from Balderdash (our favorite cocktail bar in Copenhagen), we will be taking a party bus filled with booze to Holy Smoke BBQ in Sweden for the ultimate Sunday Funday. Holy Smoke BBQ serves the tastiest barbecue we’ve tried outside of the great U.S. of A. – and you’ll get to be part of a family-style FEAST! We’re talking pulled pork, we’re talking chicken, we’re talking brisket, we’re talking beef ribs, cornbreads, sides, and all the fixings! Bring on the meat sweats!
